Face Fresheners and Astringents
To tone skin, take half a slice of cucumber. Stroke over the face in fairly firm circular motions. Allow drying naturally. Rinse.
Add one teaspoon of peppermint or pudina leaves to a cup of boiling water. Steep for half an hour. Strain and bottle when cool. Use after cleansing.
A few drops of spirits of camphor added to the last rinsing water also acts as an astringent.
Any chemist can make this one up for you: 1tsp. spirit of camphor, 2 1/2 fluid oz. which hazel, 2 1/2 oz. orange flower water, and 2 1/2 oz. distilled water. Shake well before use.
Moisturizers
Wash 8 lettuce leaves well. Boil in a pint of water. Cool and strain through muslin. Bottle. Apply with cotton wool pads dipped in a solution using light, upward movement. Leave on for 3 minutes before tissuing off.
Mix equal parts of rosewater, glycerine and lemon juice.
Take an ounce of almonds (or cashew nuts). Dip them alternately in boiling water and cold water to peel. Grind to a paste. Add half a pint of distilled water, drop by drop, till the concoction is milky.
Honey and Almond Cream Conditioner
Take 4 oz. Honey, 8 oz, hydrous lanolin, and 1/2 cup almond oil.
In a double boiler, warm the honey, blend in lanolin, and as it melts add almond oil. Stir well and beat till creamy. Leave a little overnight on face and neck
